Key Stage 3, Year 7. Ages: 12-13

ENGLISH
Pupils will learn how writers convey setting, character and mood through word choice and sentence structure, make links between the reading of fiction and the choices they make as writers. They will learn to plan, draft, edit and present a text with readers and a purpose in mind.

This unit aims to help the transfer between Key Stage 2 & 3 by building on activities which pupils will have encountered at Key Stage 2.

Teachers will be able to use this unit to make a diagnostic assessment of what the pupils know, understand and are able to do.

GEOGRAPHY
The main aims of this unit are to develop the pupil’s ability to solve problems and to form opinions based on contextual evidence. Pupils are required to develop decision-making skills that are based on ‘real life’ case studies and to interpret and analyse a range of archive material.

This unit aims to help transfer between key stage 2 and 3 by building on locality studies pupils are likely to have carried out and encouraging them to talk about the work they have already done. Teachers will be able to use this unit to make a diagnostic assessment of what pupils know, understand and are able to do.
This unit is expected to take 4–6 hours.
