Key Stage 2, Year 6. Ages 10-11
ENGLISH
The main purpose of this unit is to extend pupils’ knowledge
and understanding of aspects of narrative structure, and to be able
to apply their understanding to the development of their own writing.
This unit aims to help the transfer between
Key Stage 2 & 3 by building on concepts with which pupils are
already familiar and introducing activities which they will encounter
at Key Stage 3,
Teachers will be able to use this unit to make
a diagnostic assessment of the what pupils know, understand and
are able to do.
GEOGRAPHY
The main aims of this unit are to develop the pupil’s ability
to look at map, photographic and textural evidence in order to draw
conclusions and to make decisions. The lessons that focus on mapping
are intended to enable pupils to develop the skills of understanding
the geography of a particular locality by allowing them to ‘journey’
through the place and to be able to identify the link between image
and map. Pupils are also required to develop decision-making skills
that are based on ‘real life’ case studies as well as
the ability to interpret and analyse a range of archive material.
This unit aims to help transfer between key
stage 2 and 3 by building on locality studies pupils are likely
to have carried out and encouraging them to talk about the work
they have already done. Teachers will be able to use this unit to
make a diagnostic assessment of what pupils know, understand and
are able to do.
This unit is expected to take 4–6 hours.
HISTORY
The main purpose of this unit is to set aspects of social change
and continuity into a locality through the exploration of the historical
background to a fictional interpretation of life in Britain during
the second half of the nineteenth century.
